Leigh Delamere service station fined

Leigh Delamere's M4 service station has been fined £8,000 and ordered to pay £3,700, for a breach in health and safety.

The station, run by Moto Hospitality Limited, was prosecuted by North Wiltshire District Council.

The incident occurred in November 2007, when an employee slipped on a wet corridor floor caused by a leak in the roof.

District council prosecutor Paul Taylor told magistrates in Chippenham that management knew about the leak.

Mr Taylor said requests to repair the roof had been made to the head office of the company, in April 2006, and had not been followed up.

The company had also failed to follow risk assessment procedures, by not using non-slip mats on the affected floor.

Moto Hospitality Limited spokesman Dale Collins told the court, admininistration procedures at the time were not sufficient but had been changed.

The company has repaired the lifted floor tiles and the leaking roof.

That fine was small change to that company, they make millions every week! I very much doubt that the fine imposed has made much difference to them.

Wonder if the Health & Safety looked at the baked beans in the restaurant as I'm sure they are a danger to people's health.
