Suicide man surrounded by drugs

Police called to reports of someone trying to hang himself found a man with thousands of pounds worth of drugs.

Christopher Major was in a distressed state' when officers arrived at his home on Priory Road, Park North, earlier this year.

But while they were at the address they found numerous bags of cannabis as well as a large quantity of cocaine.

Rachel Marshall, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court today how the police had gone to the property on Wednesday March 12 after being told a man was trying to hang himself.

She said they found 24-year-old Major there and that he was upset following a row with his girlfriend.

They also recovered 400 grams of cannabis with a street value of about £1,500 and 12.5 grams of cocaine which is worth about £500.

When he was questioned Major told cops that he was a heavy user of cannabis and that all of the drugs were his and for his own personal use.

However he later changed his plea and admitted that he would have supplied some of the cannabis to others.

Major, of Milverton Court, Park North, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis with intent to supply and straight possession of cocaine.

Passing sentence Judge Douglas Field said "The possession of skunk cannabis with intent to supply is a serious smatter and in normal circumstances the amount involved and its value would mean a prison sentence but I have been helped greatly by what I have learned about you from this pre-sentence report and indeed your basis of plea."

He imposed an 18 month community order ordering him to be under supervision for that period and complete a substance related offending programme.

Major will also have to forfeit the drugs, which will be destroyed, and £140 found on him when he was arrested.
