Fire in Phelps Parade

FIRE-FIGHTERS have managed to put out a huge fire in the centre of Calne after closing one of the towns main roads.

The fire broke out in the Travel Emporium shop in Phelps Parade just after 11.30am this morning and crews from Chippenham rushed to the scene.

Police officers have had to shut Curzon Street and evacuate all of the shops close to the store.

A crowd of more than 50 by-standers are still at the scene as the fire crews make sure the building is secure.

It is not yet known how the fire started.

Thank heavens nobody was injured. Looking on the bright side it did do £35'000 worth of improvemnets to the towns look.
