Squatter found with knife
A MAN who squats in a garden shed at a house in Chippenham was caught carrying a knife by police, a court heard.
Nelson De Castro-Meia, 26, appeared before magistrates in Chippenham on Thursday charged with carrying a blade in a public place. He admitted the offence.
Prosecutor Pauline Lambert told the court how police were called to a possible burglary at a house in Rooks Nest Close, Chippenham on June 2.
The owners of the property said they saw a man at the rear of their gate and told officers they believed it was De Castro-Meia and that he had been sleeping in a shed in their garden.
When police searched him they found the knife in the pocket of the jacket he was wearing.
John Elliot, defending, said his client had used the knife for cutting food and had it on him after putting his jacket on when police arrived.
He said De Castro-Meia had no intention of using it as a weapon.
"I believe there is no suggestion that my client had this knife for any sinister reason. It just happened to be there," he said.
De Castro-Meia was given a conditional discharge on the provision he does not commit any future offences.
and that he had been sleeping in a shed in their garden
How nice to have propery so extensive as to have a total disinterest in the occupants of ones out buildings.
Got any spare sheds unoccupied? or are they full of canabis growers, illegal immigrants, or knife sharpeners?

give him a nice warm cell to sleep in! He needs taking off the streets before he uses the knife! I dont think its quite as innocent as he makes out somehow!

I found a toad in my shed and he had a machete - so I let him keep it because "it just happened to be there" - came in handy for cutting up slugs for dinner!

You stop picking on my toad! He might carry a machete but he doesn't deal drugs! But give him time - and when that time comes I will get the police helicopter out to evict him and cost all you tax payers a shed load of money (excuse the pun)!!!
