Allison feels pre-season is false

Sam Allison believes pre-season gives a false representation of Chippenham Town's players after last night's 2-0 win at Hallen.

The versatile frontman played 90 minutes for the Bluebirds, who won thanks to goals from Sean Seavill and new boy Ashley Williams.

But Allison, one of the longest serving current players at Hardenhuish Park, has told fans not to read too much into pre-season results.

"It is a little bit false when you are playing pre-season because sometimes players do a few things they would not normally do in a game," he said.

"You can't realistically look into pre-season games that much.

"It's like last year where we won all the games and then lost at Hitchin on the opening day.

"I would prefer to draw or lose our pre-season games if we made a good start to the season."

But Allison did concede the run out at Hallen gave the Bluebirds players a good idea of what their fitness levels were.

He said: "As far as pre-season goes it is good to get a few minutes under my belt, for me it was ideal because I got 90 minutes.

"Its good to get the first 90 out of the way because it gives you a good idea how far you are away from being fit.

"We have been off for a few weeks but we played some good football in places but we were a little rusty, though it's just about getting the fitness levels up."

Next up for Adie Mings' side are home games with FA Cup finalists Cardiff City on Tuesday and then Swindon Town on Saturday, July 26.

"When teams like Swindon and Cardiff come they treat it as a training exercise, for us it is a fitness exercise because a lot of the time we end up chasing the ball," joked Allison.

"It's good for the fans for those teams to come to us but we cannot show them too much respect because we have to try our hardest, no matter what game it is."
